7f7c33a287 "Queensrche" sounds like the pre-"Hear in the Now Frontier" putput, which is the Queensrche that I prefer. Clearly, EMI is trying to make some cash off the band, and beef up their catalogue.My gripe with the choices is especially with the selections from RAGE FOR ORDER. Missing in action: The gorgeous ballad "The Killing Words" and ethereal "I Will Remember" from Rage for Order; pivotal Operation: Mindcrime tracks "Revolution Calling" and "The Mission", the latter being one of Chris DeGarmo's crowning glories as a songwriter and guitarist, with a killer Michael Kamen string section; "Another Rainy Night (Without You)" and "Anybody Listening?" from Empire; and most significantly, no live material. Its not exactly a new "Operation: Mindcrime (1988)", but stylistically I guess its somewhere between the semi-progressive heavy metal of the early releases by the band and the more mainstream heavy metal of "Empire (1990)". Spore is kind of what the band tried to do on Tribe, but with that extra umph. Standouts have to be "Queen of the Reich" and "Warning." I never noticed just how powerful they were until I heard the remastered versions. It is not boring, generic, or flabby. As a result, Queensrche made one of the few late 1980s albums that could transport the listener entirely away from reality much like the progressive rock that influenced it. There is no better intro to the band, so this is a great place to start. For about a decade the band released a string of seminal records that never sounded anything like what the band had did before, save for the identifiable feel of the musicians involved and the general attitude of being a bit clever, without being bloated or pretentious. There is now a controversial and often hostile split between a vocal minority of fans of each version of Queensrche, and as such each of these two records are controversial, and there are people who are going to hate both of them no matter what they actually sound like.
